Commission staff plans workshop on Bitterroot Water case

Staff from the Idaho Public Utilities Commission will conduct a workshop in Athol on Nov. 2 regarding Bitterroot Water Company’s request for an increase in its metered base rates from $20 per month to $45.

The workshop will begin at 7 p.m. in the Athol Community Center, 30355 Third St. The commission also set a deadline of Nov. 16 to receive public comments.

Bitterroot Water Company, which serves 116 households in the Hayden Lake area, said the increase is needed to offset increasing costs associated with the operation, maintenance and capital improvements to its water system. Bitterroot contends that in the last 12 months the water system has been upgraded to maintain compliance with increasingly tougher government standards for water quality.

The company is not proposing an increase to its commodity charge of 75 cents for every 1,000 gallons consumed in excess of 15,000 gallons per month.

The commission may grant, deny or modify the revenue requirement requested by the company. Also at issue are all of the company’s rates and charges, its practices, rules, service, equipment, facilities and customer relations.

Comments are accepted through Nov. 16 via e-mail by accessing the commission’s homepage at www.puc.idaho.gov and clicking on "Comments & Questions." Fill in the case number (BIT-W-05-01) and enter your comments. Comments can also be mailed to P.O. Box 83720, Boise, ID 83720-0074 or faxed to (208) 334-3762.
